Cheongmun Ryeong was a member of the Cheongmun Clan who had been developing and researching techniques in the main house for nearly 150 years. He was Seo Eun-hyun's first Cultivation master, and highly respected throughout the Head Realm as one of the three great figures of Qi Building (축기/築氣).

Overview

Cheongmun Ryeong is the first character in the story to teach Seo Eun-hyun about cultivation. His mastery over Understanding before Breakthrough and insight into higher cultivation realms is unparalleled among the cultivators remaining in the Lower World.

Although he possessed the True Spiritual Roots, his spiritual meridians were weak and he was born with impurities in his body, so he could only stay at the early Qi Building realm. Despite being fated to die in the womb, his knowledge and insight allowed him to fight at the level of a Core Formation cultivator.

According to Hong Su-ryeong, Cheongmun Ryeong is well known even among cultivators who have ascended to the Bright Cold Realm, among whom he is known as "the Yellow Snake" — meaning "the Wise One without Talent". Since ancient times, "snakes" have symbolized "wisdom".

Cheongmun Ryeong was a lingering will left by Salt Sea Supreme Deity. This refers to when the Salt Sea Supreme Deity left the Radiance Hall and his cultivation fell below Vestige Liberation Immortal (尸解仙).

Personality

Cheongmun Ryeong has a hardworking nature, refusing to give up on those he believes in. Despite his foul nature that he casually projects towards others, he is kind. His struggles in his cultivation progress are similar to Seo Eun-hyun's.

He was frustrated with Seo Eun-hyun's lack of talent however never abandoned him. In fact, Ryeong gave all his techniques to Eun-hyun when Eun-hyun was dying.

Relationships

Seo Eun-hyun

He was a caring and loving person. Despite Seo Eun-hyun's lack of talent and minute progress, he still congratulated him in his own way. When Seo Eun-hyun's Seven Star Ritual was failing several times, Cheongmun Ryeong's anguish was like his own ritual wasn't able to succeed. He dedicated a month of his time and research to find the reason behind the failure.

Kim Young-hoon

Kim Young-hoon had been defeated by a "human cultivator" for the first time, and it was none other than Cheongmun Ryeong. From that day on, the two strangely clicked and shared both hardships and joys. They became friends, and Kim Young-hoon joined the Pure Friends Alliance.
